In order to
meet the diverse study objectives of non-degree
international students, the Japanese Language Institute
of Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (NUFS) offers
the following two courses of study:
The Contemporary Japan Program in
Nagoya (C Program), inaugurated in 2004, which offers a
broader program of study examining contemporary Japan in
the context of Asian Studies (for students whose main
objective is not primarily mastery of the Japanese
language).
The Japanese Language and Japanese
Studies Program (J Program), which offers an intensive language
study course designed to aid students in acquisition and
mastery of the language, supplemented with Area Studies
courses and opportunities to experience Japanese culture.
Upon
application, students will be asked to select either the
Contemporary Japan (C Program) or the Japanese Language (J Program)
course of study. Students may choose to study for one
semester or one academic year. Though some restrictions may
apply, it is usually possible for students to change their
program of study after completing one semester. Those
hoping to transfer from the Contemporary Japan to the
Japanese Language program should plan on taking the more
intensive language course (Grammar for Beginners) during
their first semester.
