People who have language skills as well as the ability to think critically with broad knowledge is what lies beneath a strong power of persuasion.
One of the characteristics of the department are small classes, divided by proficiency level, along with specialized seminars and individual guidance, which allow students to build comprehensive language skills which enable them to think, discuss, and give presentations in English while capturing the essence of the topics they study.
Satisfaction with the language skills gained through a world-class English education system and study abroad programs is not the only aim. It is also important to gain real knowledge and expertise from the world and to be able to think critically. With the essential communication skills cultivated through deep learning as a basis, we want our students to display their talents on the world stage.
The Department of British and American Studies has decided to put more focus on liberal arts education at the international level and has two majors: the English Language Major and the English Communication Major. In terms of improving one’s English, there is no significant difference between the English Language Major, which has strongly inherited the previous Department of British and American Studies, and the English Communication Major, which focuses on the improvement of communication skills. However, the department will be transformed into a department where students are able to choose their major based on their own preference and to concentrate on their interest of study.
