The knowledge of international liberal arts is required in every situation in order to survive in international society
In the age of globalization, international liberal arts are required in various fields that are active in international society. International liberal arts are the ability to understand matters completely, to deal with them correctly, and to encounter people from around the world with a spirit of hospitality using the common language of English. By learning about international liberal arts, students will be able to gain the ability to survive in international society. In the Department of Liberal Arts and Global Studies, we develop personnel who will find success on the global stage without boundaries, namely personnel with a background of international liberal arts.
Through the acquisition of international liberal arts, you will be able to step out onto the global stage in the fields of aviation, tourism, hospitality, media and journalism, international organizations, and international volunteering
In the Department of Liberal Arts and Global Studies, we have established a unique curriculum. In addition to English language studies, the curriculum consists of the following two specialties; regional studies and regional language learning in conjunction with thress specialized education courses; a recreation course which focuses on hospitality to allow students to cultivate the ability to understand others and rebuild themselves; the governance course to cultivate a global mindset; and a literacy course to cultivate an information mindset. Furthermore, we have established a group of subjects called “Academic Subjects in English” in which students learn the contents they studied in the above three courses again but this time in English, so that they will acquire a high English ability that enables them to practically make use of the contents of specialized fields, as well as increasing their knowledge of those specialized fields. To have these combined abilities is the basis of the ability to survive in international society. By equipping students with the true spirit of hospitality in the Department of Liberal Arts and Global Studies, students are able to have insight and the ability to respond in international society, and gain skills required on the global stage, including the aviation industry, various services industries, the field of media and journalism, and international institutions.
Distinctive features of the Department of International Liberal Studies
Specialized education consists of three majors where students will gain both expertise and practical skills through a combination of lectures and workshops.
In this global society, we encounter people not only from Japan who have the same cultural background as ourselves but also people from various countries who have different cultural backgrounds and languages. To understand our counterparts, we need to understand the social structure of the world, the counterparts that belong to it, and the counterparts themselves. Then it is necessary to obtain correct information in order to understand all of the above.
In the Department of Liberal Arts and Global Studies, we see the requirements to be successful in this global society in the following three keywords; human beings, world, and information. We believe these are "capabilities to deal with things anywhere in the world” = “basic skills as members of society” = “international liberal arts”. In other words, in order to understand the people you encounter in global society, students will systematically study specialized education through the following three courses offered by the Department; relationships between you and the counterparts themselves (human beings) in the recreation course; the social structure (world) and the counterparts that belong to it in the governance course; and information required for understanding in the literacy course.
