Nagoya University of Foreign Studies Academic Regulations (Excerpts)
（学年）
第５条 学年は，４月１日に始まり翌年３月31日に終る。
(Academic Year)
Article 5
The academic year shall begin on April 1 and end on March 31 of the following year.
（学期）
第６条 学年を分けて，次の２期とする。
１期 ４月１日から９月15日まで
２期 ９月16日から翌年３月31日まで
(Semesters)
Article 6
The academic year shall be divided into the following two semesters.
The first (spring) semester: from April 1 to September 15
The second (fall) semester: from September 16 to March 31 of the following year
（単位）
第９条 各授業科目の単位数は，１単位の授業科目を45時間の学修（自己学習含む）を必要とする内容をもって，次の基準により単位数を計算するものとする。
一 講義及び演習については，15時間から30時間までの授業をもって１単位とする。
二 実験・実習及び実技等については，30時間から45時間の授業をもって１単位とする。
（Credit)
Article 9
One credit requires 45 hours of study (including self-study) and the number of credits shall be calculated according to the following criteria.
(1) One credit for lectures and seminars shall consist of 15 to 30 hours of classes.
(2) For experiments, practical training, and practical skills, one credit shall consist of 30 to 45 hours of classes.
第９条の２ 授業は，講義，演習，実験，実習若しくは実技のいずれかにより又はこれらの併用により行うものとする。
２ 前項の授業を，多様なメディアを高度に利用して，当該授業を行う教室等以外の場所で履修させることができる。
Article 9-2
Classes shall be conducted through lectures, seminars, experiments, practical training, or skills practice, or a combination of these.
2. The classes set forth in the preceding paragraph may be taken in places other than classrooms by making advanced use of various media.
（表彰）
第51条 学生でよくその本分を尽くし，学力優秀，品行方正で他の学生の模範となる者は表彰する。
（Commendation)
Article 51
Students who are devoted to their duties, exemplary in their conduct, academic excellence and who are role models for the other students, shall receive commendations.
（懲戒）
第52条 学則に違反し，その他学生としての本分に反する行為があった学生は，別に定める規程により学長がこれを懲戒する。
２ 懲戒は，訓告，停学又は退学とする。
３ 退学は，次の各号のいずれかに該当する者に対して行う。
一 性行不良で改善の見込みがないと認められる者
二 学業成績不良で成業の見込みがないと認められる者
三 正当の理由がなく出席が常でない者
四 学校の秩序を乱し，その他学生としての本分に反した者
（Discipline)
Article 52
The President shall discipline students who violate Academic Regulation or whose conduct is contrary to the true duty as a student, in accordance with the regulations separately stipulated.
2. Disciplinary punishments shall consist of admonition, suspension, or expulsion.
3. Expulsion shall be given to students who fall under any of the following items
(1) Those who behave so badly with no prospect to improve
(2) Those whose academic performance is deemed to be so poor with no prospect for achievement
(3) Those who are not in good attendance without due reason
(4) Those who disrupt the order of the University or take any other action contrary to the duty as a student

（表彰）
第51条 学生でよくその本分を尽くし，学力優秀，品行方正で他の学生の模範となる者は表彰する。

（懲戒）
第52条 学則に違反し，その他学生としての本分に反する行為があった学生は，別に定める規程により学長がこれを懲戒する。

一 性行不良で改善の見込みがないと認められる者

１．学生への連絡等
本学では、学生に対する連絡を、NUFS Portalを通して告知しています。ただし、一部の連絡については、NUFS Emailや国際交流課前掲示板を通して行います。
1. Notices to students
NUFS provides information to students through the NUFS Portal. However, some information will be sent via NUFS Email or will be posted on the bulletin board in front of the International Office.
２．学生証
学生証は、本学の学生であることを証明する身分証明書です。必ずいつも携帯してください。紛失した場合は学生課へ届け出て使用を停止し、再発行の申請を行ってください。
2. Student ID Card
The student ID card is an identification card that proves that you are a student of NUFS. Please be sure to carry it with you at all times. If you lose your Student ID card, report it to the Student Affairs Office and apply for a new card.
４．授業時間
第1講時 9：10～10：40
第2講時 10：50～12：20
第3講時 13：20～14：50
第4講時 15：00～16：30

4. Class hours
1st class period: 9:10 am - 10:40 am
2nd class period: 10:50 am - 12:20 pm
3rd class period: 1:20 pm - 2:50 pm
4th class period: 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

５．休講・補講について
授業を休講とする場合は事前にNUFS Portalで連絡します。補講についてもNUFS Portalで連絡されます。休講があったら必ず補講が実施されますので、見落とさないように気をつけましょう。
5. Class Cancellation and Make-up Classes
When a class is cancelled, the cancellation will be announced via the NUFS Portal. Make-up classes will also be announced in the NUFS Portal. Make-up classes will always be offered when classes are cancelled, so please be careful not to miss them.
６．欠席・公欠について
(1) 欠席
① 授業時間数の3分の1を超えて欠席した場合、その授業科目の単位は認めません。
② 公欠として認めた日数は、欠席日数に算入しません。
③ 同一科目における遅刻・早退は、原則として3回で欠席1回となります。
(2) 公欠
① 学校保健安全法施行規則に定める感染症により登校停止の措置を受けた場合はその期間は公欠となります。新型コロナウイルス感染症やインフルエンザ、麻疹などが対象になります。どの感染症が対象になるか確認したい場合はIJLEオフィスもしくは教務課へ問い合わせてください。
② 公欠の届出は、公欠の事由により欠席した授業期間の最終日から1週間以内でなければ認められません。
③ 公欠の場合でも、欠席による授業の遅れは各自の努力によって取り戻すことが必要です。
6. Absences and Excused Absences
(1) Absences
① If a student is absent for more than one-third of the total number of class sessions, credit for that course will not be granted.
② If an absence is considered as an excused absence, it does not count towards the number of days of absence.
③ 3 late arrivals or early departures in the same course will be counted as one absence.
(2) Excused Absences
① If a student is suspended from class attendance due to an infectious disease as defined in the School Health and Safety Law Enforcement Regulations, the absences for that period will be excused absences. This applies to new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), influenza, measles, etc. To find out which infectious diseases are covered, contact the IJLE Office or the Academic Affairs Office.
② Notification of a excused absence is only accepted within one week of the last day of the class period in which the student was absent for reasons of excused absence.
③ Even in the case of an excused absence, students must make up the missed classes by their own efforts.
７．暴風警報等発令の場合の授業の取り扱いについて
① 午前6時30分の時点で、日進市及び名古屋市並びにこれらと隣接する市区町村において暴風警報、特別警報もしくは避難指示が発令中の場合は1・2講時を休講とします。
② 午前10時30分の時点で、当該地域において暴風警報、特別警報もしくは避難指示が発令中の場合は3講時以降を休講とします。
③ 上記の時刻以外で暴風警報等が発令された場合は別途通知します。
7. Handling of classes in the event of a storm warning, etc.
① If a storm warning, emergency warning, or evacuation order is in effect in Nisshin City, Nagoya City, or surrounding cities at 6:30 a.m., classes in 1st and 2nd periods will be cancelled.
② If a storm warning, emergency warning, or evacuation order is in effect in Nisshin City, Nagoya City, or surrounding cities at 10:30 a.m., classes will be cancelled from the 3rd period onwards.
③ If a storm warning, emergency warning, or evacuation order is issued other than at the above times, a notice will be issued at that time.
８．巨大地震発生時の場合の授業の取り扱いについて
気象庁から、巨大地震発生に関する情報が発表された場合は別途通知します。
8. Handling of classes in the event of a major earthquake
In the event that the Japan Meteorological Agency releases information regarding the occurrence of a major earthquake, a notice regarding classes will be issued at that time.
本学では、学生に対する連絡を、NUFS Portalを通して告知しています。ただし、一部の連絡については、NUFS Emailや国際交流課前掲示板を通して行います。
